Biography
Professor Chu earned his B.S. in Physics from Northwest University (China) in 2008 and his PhD in Physics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, from 2014 to 2016. In November 2018, he joined The University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in November 2024. Since joining HKU, Professor Chu has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Nature, Nature Communications, and Science Advances, and has filed 17 patents related to diamond technologies. His work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including China’s Top 10 Scientific Advances (2025), Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of the Year Award (2025), HKU Outstanding Young Researcher Award (2025), and Gold Medals at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (2024, 2026).
